Step 7 refinish door frame.
How to strip and refinish a fiber glass door.
While you shouldn t remove the frames from your home the door s frame should be treated the same as the doors.
Fiberglass entry doors typically have a wood grain finish that looks attractive when it is stained and lacquered.
Follow the manufacturer s instructions.
Apply the remover generously to a door one side at a time.
Gently rub and blot the surface of the door.
However they do need staining or painting every three to five years.
Make sure door is completely clean and dry before refinishing.
Let the remover sit for 15 30 minutes and scrape off the remover and finish with a plastic scraper while being careful not to gouge or mark up the door.
Apply the stain with a clean dry cloth.
Fiberglass doors are attractive.
They need to be stripped sanded and stained.
Again remember to tape up all the fiberglass to avoid damage.
After the stain or paint has been removed scrub the door with an all purpose cleaner to completely remove any stripper residue.
Unscrew the doorknob latch and any other hardware with a screwdriver and remove it.
Pull the hinge pins take down the door and lay it flat on a pair of sawhorses.
Rinse well and wipe dry.
The only solution at this point is to strip the door and start over provided you have a door made by a manufacturer that verifies you can use a stripper without ruining the fiberglass.
Even better they require less maintenance and have fewer problems than steel or wood doors.
